How to buy a house in Mexico as a foreigner

There are many reasons why Mexico is one of the preferred countries of foreigners to invest. Whether it is for a vacation residence or to make it your new permanent home, the country has a lot to offer.

  1. Choose an unrestricted location
According to article 27 of the Mexican Constitution, a restricted area is known as an area that comprises 100 kilometers from the line that marks the border towards the interior of the country. Beach areas that are less than 50 kilometers from the ocean are also restricted. If the house you want is within a restricted area, you can choose a bank credit or acquire it through a Mexican corporation.

  2. Request the necessary permits
One of the requirements to buy a house in Mexico as a foreigner is to have a permit granted by the Ministry of Foreign Relations. This procedure is carried out in person at Dirección General de Asuntos Jurídicos en México.

  3. Get a financing plan
There are credits for foreigners in Mexico, which can be granted by national banks, or even by Infonavit or Fovissste. The requirements to apply for financing tend to be the same as for any Mexican. Additionally, you must have a valid passport and a document that proves your legal stay in the country.
